About
CHIPS — Children’s Indoor Play Society is a not-for-profit indoor play space in Wetaskiwin, Alberta, offering children a safe, welcoming, and stimulating environment for active play, imaginative exploration, and early learning. With three distinct play areas, a snack room, an outdoor space, and a full program calendar, CHIPS is a community hub where children grow and families connect. Ages 0–12
Three Rooms, Endless Play
The Gym is CHIPS’s largest and most active space, designed for kids to run, climb, bounce, and burn energy. It features a commercial-sized bouncy castle with a built-in basketball hoop and slide, a multi-level climbing structure with tunnels, crawl-throughs, and hanging obstacles, and The Mountain — a Banff-inspired rock climbing feature that kids can drive ride-on cars around, climb over, and crawl under. Open floor space gives children plenty of room to zoom around freely.
The Adventure Room is a dedicated pretend play space designed to spark imagination and role play. Children can explore a transportation zone, care for animals at a vet clinic and adoption centre, shop at a fully stocked grocery store and farmer’s market, cook in a kitchen and baby area, serve up pizza at the restaurant, or scoop treats at the ice cream shop. A quieter sit-and-play corner features magnetic tile building and Little People sets for calmer moments.
The Discovery Room is a hands-on early learning space with monthly rotating themes — from Colours and Farm & Harvest to Shapes, Emotions, Senses, and more — that introduce pre-kindergarten readiness skills through play. The room includes a pretend play area tied to each month’s theme, a sensory table, a rolling playdough cart for fine motor development, and an early learning science station for age-appropriate experiments. The Discovery Room was originally funded through the City of Wetaskiwin Community Grant Program.
Families can also use the on-site snack room, equipped with a fridge, microwave, and coffee station. When weather permits, an outdoor play space provides even more room for children to run and explore. Toys are sanitized daily and deep-cleaned monthly; bathrooms and the kitchen are cleaned thoroughly after every rental.
Programs
CHIPS runs two regular programs. Wonder Wednesday is a play-based learning program for children ages 1 to 5, built around monthly themes, rotating pretend play areas, and hands-on activities that support kindergarten readiness. Rhyming Tots, offered in partnership with the Wetaskiwin Community Learning Program (WCLP), is an early literacy program introducing young children to books, songs, and rhymes to build pre-reading skills.
